They gathered in Dodge City, a city where the undertaker made a prettier penny then the mayor… Just south of the “Dead Line” – Wyatt Earp’s bloody border – they gathered. The aces of bloody Kansas: Kirk Jordan, Kinch Riley, J. J. Webb and Ben… the infamous Ben Thompson from Wichita. Four aces — and there was no room for a fifth:
CLAY ALLISON from Washita! Gambler, murderer, womanizer! That night, the five had gathered around the card table in the “Opera House Saloon” and Allison had a hand of four aces. The fifth — would be false!
When the gun smoke settled on the floor it was over an ace of hearts, in a pale hand — with a hole through it…
