Fort Davis had barely a hundred soldiers. Their task was to defend the scattered ranchers and small farms in the untamed land west of the Pecos River — against white bandits and murderous Indians.
This was no easy task. Bronco Fuego and his apache warriors came out of their refuge to ravage, loot, murder and burn – before they fled back over the border to Mexico.
